Housing for Two is a project situated in Malem, a small village in Belgium. The aim was to find a place to add two houses while respecting the existing environment, to interact with the site and to reflect on the idea of two. It is a project about occupying space as well as defining space and its meaning.

SITE

Situated on the edge of a small pond, Housing for Two is a project of two merged houses, each defined by its relationship with the ground and the materials used. While one part is directly linked with the ground and merged with the brick foundations, the other part, raised, explores the view offered by the pond located in the middle of the village. Its close relation with the water and the existing tree enables the common house to be closely linked with the site. In addition, a gutter system has been imagined to accompany the flow of the movement in the house and to amplify the connection with the site. The concrete foundations that are used to support the structure above the water also connect the house with its environment and resolve some structural issues.
